March 2021

AVSSC

The Auckland Vinnies Secondary School Council had their first meeting for 2021! Our Vinnies team alongside our Ignite secondary school mentors are blessed to have had the opportunity to share and discuss the charism of St Vincent de Paul with our Vinnies leaders. These inspiring young leaders will take part in monthly meetings as part of their leadership development. We pray a special blessing over our rangatahi as they journey through the year, may the Lord cover you and bless you, may He shine upon you and be the light of your journey. Their first session had student leaders interacting and getting to know their cohort for the year, what first was a very separate and kept to their own at the beginning vibe turned into a well mixed family that shared their interests and joys over time.

With the theme of rediscovering fire, 40 student leaders were on their way to their own AVSSC camp to rediscover their own fire within their leadership. The students were in groups doing team building activities, through ABLs, however the most important session was learning about the founders of vinnies. In order to lead their vinnies groups within their own schools and communities, leaders went through the vinnies’ charism and learnt about the founders that helped create vinnies to be the way it is now. Through learning about these founders it inspired student leaders to discover their own leadership skills.

“Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.”

Community work

The team had a talanoa session with the Le Toloa team. The work of the Le Toloa team is very inspiring and continues to inspire many others. Leota Dr Lisi Petaia, Fuimaono Karl Endemann and Bella Bartley, work together to present thought provoking presentations to the team. We would like to thank the Le toloa team for helping us delve deep into our topic of mental health.
