Today the Vinnies Youth Team had the privilege of connecting with the Vinnies of St Peter’s College as they seek to unpack the theme of ‘Social Exclusion’. Through discussion, the students learnt the products of exclusion amongst the examples of those in prison, and those in foster care. The students then came to find that their gift of presence and the notion of inclusion are first and foremost important when engaging with others. Looking forward to unpacking more on this theme as the term continues!
“AD JESUM PAR MARIAM”
It was exciting being with the Marist Vinnies today as they kick off the year strong embarking on the journey of Homelessness this term. We look forward to what these students have planned for this term.

GEARING UP FOR 2015
It was a great opportunity to connect in with the De La Salle Vinnies today to unpack and gain a better insight to the theme of Social Exclusion that surrounds us. We are grateful for these young men who have accepted the challenge to live out the gospel through this year and making their focus on caring as brothers for those in their school community before moving out into their local community!
The energy was high in the air at today’s visit to St Dominic’s College as the Vinnies group reflected on the theme of ‘Social Exclusion’. Key points of the meeting looked at how social exclusion is present in our communities, just as much as within school and peer groups. How aware are we of our own patterns of behavior and biases?
We are blessed to have such passionate young women who have heeded the call to do works of mercy both big and small!
The Youth Team were blessed today. It was awesome witnessing firsthand the passion and commitment of the Sacred Heart Vinnies for their upcoming year of service. They have chosen the theme of Homelessness this term. These young men are geared up to break down the stereotypes that stigmatize and marginalise our brothers and sisters who are without a place to call home. They hope that in their immersion projects and reflections they will learn how to uphold the dignity of others. It is a courageous act of solidarity and we wish them all the best.
FOOD DRIVE FOR LENT
During this season of Lent McAuley High School will be living out the charism of the Society through their Food Drive until the end of the term. Today the Youth Team had an opportunity to facilitate an input session on their theme for term one Food Insecurity. Thank you to Mr Bower and the Vinnies for this initiative to support your local SVDP Centre in Otahuhu and our families in the community.
LIVING THE GOSPEL
The Youth Team had the privilege of meeting with some of the senior student Vinnies at St Paul’s College today. These young men will be taking what they have leaned about the Society and and spreading the charism through both words and action with the wider group. IGNITE TEAM RETREAT
It was lovely to have some of our Vinnies from tertiary level gather at Newman Hall to reflect on their lives and their work from the past year. It was also a good opportunity for the team to learn new tools of youth work and also contemplate and pray for the work of this year. These young men and women will be working alongside the thirteen catholic schools in Auckland that are part of the Vinnies Youth Programme.
SERVICE WITH A SMILE
We are so grateful to our Vinnies young and old for dedicating their Saturday to helping out at the Kingsland SVdP shop today to raise funds for our services. From sorting clothing, entertaining everyone, merchandising, to assisting customers… Your help today was greatly appreciated!

The sense of passion was strong across the group in it’s entirety and so we look forward to seeing the journey unfolding ahead.
