October Week 04

LOOKING BACK AND GIVING THANKS

Today the Youth Team had the opportunity to visit the Vinnies of Sacred Heart College a final time before they commence study leave. It was a chance to formally acknowledge their works throughout the year and give thanks for the journey of 2016. As part of today’s session the group reflected on the goals and values they had set at the beginning of the year. A presentation of awards and gifts then took place; a symbol of gratitude for their continued care of those in need.

ROSMINI COLLEGE AWARDS CEREMONY

In thanksgiving for all these young men of Rosmini College who have done in service to their fellow brother and sister, the Youth Team passed on a token of appreciation in the form of certificates. These awards acknowledge the countless hours spent in projects including afterschool programmes for the De Paul House, food appeals and hosting a regional gathering with fellow Vinnies Youth. For all that they have and continue to contribute to the lives of others, we extend our utmost gratitude.

Is deeply committed to the of care of all people and instructs others to ensure they understand. Embodies a simplicity, humility and honesty that is authentic.

Shows genuine dedication and care for the poor. Shows virtues of the SVdP charism through the Seeking out and the serving of the Poor in their community
Also impacts their community by empowering their peers to serve and/or by increasing awareness of justice and the poor. 
A well deserved acknowledgement – Many blessings upon you and the journey ahead!

Great to meet and catch up with Michael Vinnies from Queensland Vinnies! Inspiring to hear of his journey as a youth development and engagement officer, and his part in assisting the formation of youth.

ST MARY’S COLLEGE VINNIES GIVE THANKS

The members of the Vinnies Youth Team had the privilege of visiting St Mary’s College one last time before the exam season begins. It was an opportunity to affirm and give thanks for their amazing contribution to their local communities through service, advocacy and their collections.

We also had the honour of having two special guests join us today to help present and honour these amazing students and all their hardwork they have contributed to the society this year.

A special Thankyou to Vincentian Peter Courtney & to Michael Vinnies from Queensland Vinnies for joining us today to present the awards and commend the vinnies for the work they do. Also, a special thank you to the student leaders and teachers who have helped shape the St Mary’s College Vinnies service and advocacy movement this year !


NZ NATIONAL ST VINCENT DE PAUL AGM 2016.

We welcome our National Board and National Council members, Area Council staff and Area Youth Coordinators to Auckland. It was an awesome night of fellowship with national members of the Vinnies family. Great to see everyone catching up and networking.
A special shoutout to Grace Ministries and Frank Heffernan for the stunning entertainment.

Giving Thanks @ Sancta Maria College
“HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS”

Members and Staff of the Society of St Vincent de Paul went to Sancta Maria to honour and congratulate the staff, leaders and members of Sancta Maria Vinnies group. It was awesomw to revisit their service experiences of 2016. From building friendships at the local emergency housing centre, to elderly visitation and appeals for the community. Raising awareness and funds for those living with cancer, budding uo with the learning support students on campus, the numerous food and clothing drives and also the volunteering at the local Vinnies shops. These Vinnies have been busy!..
These young men and women have shaped a movement of care and compassion. We honour their many service works and stories today, A THANK YOU for sharing your gifts and talents to all! A Special thank you to Mr Cedric Piggin for your support and leadership.

MCAULEY HIGH SCHOOL VINNIES 2016

In recognition of their love and service to the community, today the Society honoured the Vinnies of McAuley High School. The South Auckland President Tonia Greatbatch and Renee the new Manager of the South Auckland Centre congratulated and presented certificates to the Vinnies. A special to the leaders and especially to our dear friend John Bower for your leadership this year.

It was moving to hear of their journey throughout the course of the year. Hearing of their experiences in preparing care packs for families, food drives for local SVdP centres and having the opportunity to connect with like minded individuals at regional gatherings.
The Society is moved by your commitment and compassion to bring about change –

This Award is Presented to the outstanding student who exemplifies the spirit of St Louise De Marillac.

Louise founded the Sisters of Charity..was a visionary, a leader, an organiser someone who inspired others to the cause, to use their gifts to join her in response to those in need.

Louise was a woman of faith, deep faith, great compassion and big wisdom. We can think of no more apt person than Rebecca who encapsulates this Spirit today.

She impacts her community by empowering her peers to serve and/or by increasing awareness of justice and the poor and showing how they can make a difference by using their gifts and talents.

This student through their leadership has made significant contributions in their school community, their local and also the vulnerable communities in which they served.

Blessed Frédéric Ozanam AWARD presented to
Latayvia Tautai
Award Presented to the outstanding student who exemplifies the Ozanam spirit of “advocating for the poor”. This student is an agent of change. Shows genuine dedication to the ideals of social justice and authentic relationships with the greater community and impacts their community by empowering their peers to serve and/or by increasing awareness of injustice. Because of their leadership, the recipient of this award has made significant contributions to both the school community and the local and Nationally.


MARIST COLLEGE VINNIES GIVE THANKS

Today, members of the Vinnies Youth Team had the privilege to visit Marist College one last time before the exam season begins. It was an opportunity to affirm, it was an opportunity to give thanks for their amazing contribution to their local communities through service, advocacy and their collections.
It was also an opportunity to reflect on their faith journey of 2016.
A special thank you to the student leaders and teachers who have helped shape the Marist College Vinnies service and advocacy movement this year.

WORLD HOMELESS DAY BEGINS
Today marks a special day dedicated to those who are Homeless. The teams from liston hostel, Auckland City Mission, Lifewise amongst many others are showcasing their services today. Come down and check it out!
A big shout out also to our set up who braved it in the early hours of the morning to come down and help set up.

DE LA SALLE CATHOLIC SOCIAL TEACHINGS

SOLIDARITY, SUBSIDIARITY, Preferential Option for the Poor and HUMAN DIGINTY were a few of the Catholic Social Teachings the De la Salle Yr 12 Level studied today.
It was good to connect in with most of the Year 12 Level classes throughout the day to assist them with their upcoming assessments. Thank you to Ms Rosanna Fouhy for coordinating programme with your RE Department.


VINNIES THANKSGIVING CEREMONY 2016

Recently, the Vinnies executives of the Auckland Secondary Schools, Young Adult Conferences, affiliates, parents and teachers gathered at the University of Auckland’s McLaurin Chapel to give thanks for the Gift and service journey of 2016.

This was a special liturgy to celebrate their connection with the communities they had engaged with and also the transformation they had each undergone. During the ceremony they were all presented with SVdP leadership awards as well as a special Vincentian annointing and blessing.

NEW LYNN VINNIES SHOP SERVICE

Shout out to Rb Bacit from Liston College for helping out at the New Lynn Vinnies shop today. Thank you for giving us your time to be able to serve our brothers and sisters in need from sorting in the back room to moving a lot of boxes.

QUEENSLAND STATE VINNIES VISIT

Today members from the Vinnies Youth AVSSC, Tertiary, Ignites, Caritas and the Youth staff team gathered at Newman Hall to have a conversation with the Queensland Vinnies delegates. It was awesome to hear the faith journeys of these youth as they shared.  It was truly an honour to have  Cass Bull (Queensland State Vinnies Youth Manager) and  Carolyn Sauvage (State Liaison Manager) visit us here in Auckland. We look forward to how this relationship with the Queensland whanau will unfold.
